People of the Philippines v. President of the Philippines: On why we have a never ending battle against our leaders

Now I may not be a political analyst or a statistician or anything but I think the plausible reason why we are at chaos AGAIN is because we don't limit out presidential candidates.. Well correct me if I'm wrong.. But nevertheless, we have 10 presidential candidates! Summing up these votes, only about 35million Filipinos voted for a presidential candidate which is only about 38% of our population; and out of this 35million, our current lovable president (sarcasm supplied or whatever; I'm not against the President anyway) received around 13.5 million votes which is again only about 38% of those who voted (I'm using 90million population by the way). And for knockout punch, 13.5Million votes is a whopping 15% percent of the population.

Thus, we have 85% of the population getting pissed with everything the winner is doing because THEY DIDN'T VOTE FOR HIM. Well, I'm not generalizing here. I'm just saying these things as it is. I'm not jumping to conclusions either. I don't mind people having their own grudges against Mr. President here.

So let's get back to the facts shall we? So what I can deduce from here is that on one hand we have 21.5Million voters who would probably be very condescending against Mr. 13.5Million votes right here because, well their bet didn't win... And then on the other hand we have 55million Filipinos who didn't vote for reasons beyond my comprehension yet they complain about what's happening. I just hope here that those people who didn't vote for reason of abstaining or just feeling empathetic about the whole election thing, aren't the ones who are clamoring about bad governance coz that just ain't making any sense. We can't blame those people who can't vote coz they don't have the resources...

So what am I getting here? Well, first off you might think is way beyond what I've been talking about but we should limit our presidential candidates to only 3 people or so.. Well I don't know... But we should really limit it. And this other idea might be very utopian but the winner MAY only be declared a winner if he gets about 20% more than the 1st runner up? Well, I know that's just stupid but it will ensure that we're not bordering on luck.

And then we go again to the I DON'T CARE ATTITUDE. We don't have to know everything about the DETAILS of what's happening.. I don't even think we even have to know about what's happening because regardless of your knowledge of the situation, it boils down to one question: DO YOU CARE? I mean, what's the sense of knowing whose SALN is legit or not if all you have in your mind is "Ah **ck you! All you did was get money and shit and ride a sports car or what" or "Ah **ck you! All you did was get money and shit and buy real estate properties or what." That's not the point! Coz what matters is why do you care? Do you care coz you hate the guy? Do you care coz you just wanna rant about the government's poor performance? If that's the case, well "we're going down swingin'" (Fall Out Boy, 2005).

See, you have to care! You have to have some kind of purposeful "conviction of the heart" (Kenny Loggins, 1991) or a genuine desire to free our nation from corruption, anomalies and all other things that are unjust.

Finally, let us not border on inadmissible evidences as what you all might probably been seeing in the broadcasts hence, let us have a fair and good judgement. If we want justice, I believe we should give justice as well.

Above all things, let us pray for our country and our people. For those who don't pray, well, let's hope, dream and care for our country and our people. Someday, our time will come and we'll be better than ever. Don't lose hope and let's all try to make our country worth living for.

The aural effect of the prestige of the Supreme Court

I've toured the Supreme Court awhile ago (February 15, 2012) and I felt astonished by the atmosphere of the EN BANC court. I've felt the prestige of being a Supreme Court Justice, let alone being THE Chief Justice.

While sitting there, I've felt the gravity of the responsibilities that encumber these justices; then I thought to myself, I pray that all the dark clouds that hover upon the court of last resort be cleared as soon as possible because there our country really is in need of a true COURT OF JUSTICE.

I may have not been able to religiously watch the trials of our incumbent Chief Justice but I will never lose hope in my country. I will continue to put to mind that one day, justice will be put back in its rightful place and our respect to the highest court of the land will be as high, or hopefully higher, than its name suggests.

I may not be a soldier. I may not be a policeman. I may not be a volunteer. I may not even become a lawyer but I know that in my heart, I have a pure desire to somehow, serve my country and give back what it has done for me.

As an average Filipino, it might not be enough to have the "will to serve your country" but it is a start which I hope will spark in the heart of every Filipino especially those who are given the authority to lead our nation.

And in the words of John F. Kennedy, "Ask not what your country can do for you - ASK WHAT YOU CAN DO FOR YOUR COUNTRY."
